To establish standards for professional and ethical practice; support research and the dissemination of knowledge; and provide professional leadership in the field of group work.
To extend counseling through the use of group process; provide a forum for examining and developing innovative concepts in group work; foster diversity and dignity in groups; and be models of effective group practice.
IASGW leadership consists of the Past President (advisor and chair of the nominations and elections committee), the President, the President Elect, the Secretary, and the Treasurer. Committee Chairs are appointed by the president. Committees include Program Committee (professional development), Finance Committee (typically the Treasurer is the Chair), Membership Committee, and Public Relations Committee.
President-Elect gets a whole year of training in leading the division before taking over as President. The President-elect shall:
